Flexion / Distraction Print E-mail

Flexion/Distraction Therapy is a technique that requires a specialized treatment table that allows the doctor to decompress the low back and creates a "push, pull, pumping" effect on the intervertebral disc. This increases the intervertebral disc height and allows the nucleus of the disc to assume its central position relieving tension on the fibers of the disc and relieving irritations on the spinal nerve roots. Flexion/Distraction also helps to restore alignment of the spine, improves posture and movement, relaxes tight back muscles, and is very effective at relieving pain.

Many conditions respond very well to this therapy including:

   Herniated or Bulging Disc
Sciatica - Leg Pain and Numbness
   Low Back Pain and Spasm
   Scoliosis
Spondylolesthesis - anterior slippage of vertebrae
Stenosis - narrowing of the spinal canal or nerve openings
   Failed Back Surgery
   Degenerative Joint Disease - osteoarthritis
Hyperlordosis - increased curvature of the lumbar spine
   Sacro-Iliac Joint Dysfunction

This technique is not only effective at treating some of the more difficult spinal conditions, but it is also an effective alternative for adjusting patients that are obese or have spinal conditions in which traditional chiropractic techniques are contraindicated.
