Dr. Otterman follows the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) OPT model.
This is a systematic, evidence based periodized training program that includes: flexibility, core, balance, power, resistance training, and cardiorespiratory exercise.
The OPT approach has been extremely successful in helping all populations to reduce body fat, increase lean muscle mass and strength, and improve performance and overall health.
Corrective exercises are prescribed based on a Kinetic Chain Assessment. This assessment uncovers postural distortion patterns (impaired movements).
A corrective exercise prescription includes::
Inhibiting overactive muscles through self myofascial release
Lengthening tight muscles through stretching
Activating underactive muscles using isolated intramuscular exercises
Integrating functional movement patterns using intermuscular exercises
